Bricks and mortar 🏡 still an attractive investment
AS ONE of my landlords put it, "For me, the best thing about investing in property is that I can walk by and pat the hedge if I want to!". No investment is more solid or present, than bricks and mortar and buying a property is still something most of us Brits aspire to. But with 35 years being the average house buyers age, renting is still the only option for many. According to the latest report from the ONS (Office of National Statistics), property prices in our area have increased by 6.1%, the 3rd biggest increase in the whole of the UK. The East Midlands showed the highest annual growth, with prices increasing by 7.0% in the year to October 2017. This was followed by the South West (6.7%) and the East of England (6.1%).
The market for private rented property, which saw an upturn in the 1990s housing recession, is still buoyant today.
